RB-79 Mobile Pod Ball Ver.Ka -04

When it comes to the RB-79 Mobile Pod Ball Ver.Ka, the cannon is the standout component. For the main breech, I used AK’s Steel paint to achieve a realistic metallic finish. The breech features accents in Pale Brass and Gun Metal from Vallejo’s “Metal Color” range for the barrel, adding depth and contrast to the piece.

Even though only one mobile pod will ultimately be equipped with the cannon, I decided to build and paint both for consistency and practice.

The display stand is a simple girder frame, painted in Steel, with a square base finished in Gun Metal—giving the whole setup a sturdy, industrial look.

Working on two RB-79 Mobile Pod Balls has been a rewarding experience. One model is fully assembled with all panels in place, while the other is left “undressed,” exposing the intricate inner frame details. This approach let me showcase both the engineering and the artistry behind this version of the kit.

The inner frame is designed as a multi layered format, instead of a single piece, which gave me the perfect opportunity to experiment with various metallic shades. By painting each layer differently, I was able to build up hopefully a dynamic, eye-catching effect that really brings the model to life.

If you’re considering a similar build, I highly recommend playing with metallic paints and layering techniques. It’s a fantastic way to highlight the mechanical details and make your Gunpla or diorama stand out!
